healthy church initative.jpg

Our Mission, "To make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world"

This weekend is our consultation weekend for the Healthier Church Initiative!

Prayer Teams
Our 22 prayer teams concluded their 40 Days of Prayer,  praying for the families in our community, our schools, and our church. These teams were also discerning God's unique vision for Eureka UMC in 2017 and into 2018. A big thank you to Brianna Doerr, our prayer team director for organizing this amazing group of teams!

Surveys
Andy Heinz, our HCI Coordinator, has completed many important tasks leading up the the HCI weekend. This includes the recent completion of the Readiness 360 Survey which was completed by 26 members of Eureka UMC. This included people from both worship services, long time members and brand new members, and people in their early 20's to people in their 80's--it was quite a cross section of our congregation.

Church-wide training workshop
There will be a church wide meeting and training session led by our HCI consultation and coaching team on Saturday, October 7th from10 am until 3 pm (lunch provided). This training session is open to all members of the church. If you would like to attend this training session, please contact Andy Heinze at hci.coordinator@eurekaumc.org before 9 am on Friday, October 6th (this information is needed to ensure that enough food is available for lunch).

HCI Consultation Team all church meeting
The HCI consultation team will be conducting a one hour meeting on Sunday, October 8th from 11 am until noon to reveal the findings from your surveys, mystery worshipper insights, staff interviews, demographic data, and their research. This will include a list of five celebrations (things we are doing well) and five prescriptions (recommended changes) for us to prayerfully consider.

"Town Hall" meetings
There will be three town hall style meetings scheduled in October for members and friends of EUMC to discuss the findings of the consultation team. This will be a Q & A format led by members of our Leadership Team. Childcare will be available during these meetings. The meetings will be held in the sanctuary of the church. The dates and times of the town hall meetings are:

Sunday, October 22nd at 11:00 am
Tuesday, October 24th at 7:00 pm
Monday, October 30th at 7:00 pm

These meetings will be followed by a church conference in November (TBA) where members of Eureka UMC will decide to accept or to reject the prescriptions offered by the HCI team.

Rev. Dr. Jim Ozier, the lead consultant for our HCI

Rev. Dr. Jim Ozier, the lead consultant for our HCI

We are excited to welcome Rev. Dr. Jim Ozier to Eureka UMC as the lead consultant for our HCI weekend. Jim will also be our guest preacher on Sunday, October 8th at both worship services; he will be sharing a compelling message based on Luke 5:1-11 titled "The Net Worth of a Church".

Here is Jim's bio:

Jim Ozier retired in July 2017 from the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church after 51 years of active service in Illinois and Texas, so that he could invest more time to coaching, consulting, and presenting workshops around the country.

He most recently served for eight years as the director of the Center for New Church Development and Congregational Transformation.  Prior to that assignment he was senior pastor of Trietsch Memorial UMC in Flower Mound for nearly 18 years.  In his tenure the church grew from 800 to over 4000, and birthed three new successful congregations.

In addition Jim is a workshop leader, coach, and consultant working with hundreds of pastors and churches in over 20 annual conferences throughout the countryHe has been a presenter at Church of the Resurrection Leadership Institute, and keynoted the Indiana Annual Conference, and the East Ohio Annual Conference.

Jim began his ministry working for noted missionary E. Stanley Jones, and he served his first church while just a high-school student in Illinois. He received his Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Jim Ozier is an established motivational speaker and presenter for religious groups, civic organizations, and corporations. Based on techniques and ideas learned from his experiences with Southwest Airlines, he has conducted numerous seminars on culture and hospitality for hundreds of pastors, churches, districts, and annual conferences.

He is co-author of the books “Clip In: Risking Hospitality in Your Church” and “The Changeover Zone: Successful Pastoral Transitions,” both published by Abingdon Press.  Jim specializes in coaching larger church pastors, and  “2nd Pastors Following Founding Pastors” as well as church transitions involving long-tenured pastors, and large churches.

Jim’s wife, Suzanne, is a retired special education teacher. Together they have four grown children. Jim is an outdoorsman who enjoys fishing, hunting, and wildlife management.

Blue Christmas Service, Sunday, December 3rd at 6 pm

Sometimes life can remove the joy that many of our friends experience during this season. It could be a painful memory, the loss of of loved one, or any number of reasons why Christmas can leave us feeling blue. This is a service of remembrance, hope, and healing for individuals and families who are looking for joy in the midst of pain or loss during this Christmas season.

apportion giving update.jpg

Apportioned Giving update

One of the wonderful things about being part of the United Methodist Church is our connection with every other United Methodist Church in the state, nation, and even around the world. It's through this connection that we can do so much more than we could ever do alone. This connection allows instant response around the world during natural disasters, it helps start new churches around the world, it provides food and clean water for families in developing nations, and so much more. Each United Methodist Church supports these worldwide ministries through apportioned giving.

For many years, Eureka UMC has not been very faithful in contributing towards our fair share of apportioned giving to the life changing and life giving worldwide ministries of the United Methodist Church. Our Leadership Team and pastor, along with our District Superintendent, developed a plan to bring Eureka UMC into full participation with our apportioned giving over a three year period beginning in 2017. Here is that plan:

2017: $18,000.00 (or about33% of our apportioned giving)
2018: $36,000.00 (or about 66% of our apportioned giving)
2019: 100% of our apportioned giving.

We are celebrating the full payment of our 2017 goal of $18,000.00 towards our apportioned giving! This is wonderful and your generosity is making a difference in the lives of families around the globe! Thank you for your continued, generous support of the wonderful ministries happening through Eureka UMC!

We look forward to seeing you Sunday morning!

EUMC News! (Aug 24, 2017)

I Pray!

Why do you pray? Why do you not pray? We have all probably experienced seasons in our life where we may be tempted to 'give up' on prayer for a variety of reasons; we are too busy, life is going just fine, maybe because we believe that prayer makes no difference in our lives, or we become frustrated because our prayers don't seem to yield any outcome in our lives. What if prayer is not necessarily about seeking control about a situation in our lives but rather surrendering our control to God?

e are continuing with our focus on prayer this Sunday with a message titled "When I Pray". We will consider two teachings from Jesus from Matthew 8:1-4 and Luke 18:1-8 and see how prevailing in prayer can help us prevail in life.

We offer two distinct worship services on Sunday morning.

Our 8:30 am traditional worship service includes timeless Christian hymns led by our Chancel Choir; the same message is offered at both worship services

8:30 am hymns:

Lord, Speak to Me
Find us Faithful
Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling
Now Thank We All Our God

Our 9:45 am contemporary worship service includes modern Christian music led by 'midnight prayer', our amazing praise band. Our JAM (Jesus and Me) Children's Ministry also meets at 9:45 am for ages 3 years old through the fifth grade.

9:45 am Worship songs:

Lifesong
Your Grace is Enough
Good, Good Father
Jesus Messiah
All Because of Jesus

Childcare is available during both worship services in our newly renovated and professionally staffed nursery for children ages birth through 2 years old. We invite middle school and high school age youth to join their families during the worship services on Sunday mornings.

40 Days of Prayer "Prayer Triplet" Groups are now forming!

We are excited to announce the formation of over 40 prayer groups in preparation for our church wide "40 Days of Prayer" beginning on August 20th. You are encouraged to form a group of three, a "prayer triplet", and to join us in an intentional season of prayer as we seek to discern the unique, God given vision for Eureka UMC. If you do not have a "prayer triplet", we can help connect you to one.

Church Conference!

We held our Church Conference on Sunday, August 20th at 11:00 am. Our District Superintendent, Rev. Londia Grainger Wright, presided over the Conference. The motion before the church was to proceed with the sale of the existing parsonage and to build a new parsonage. After a few questions, Rev. Londia called for the vote. The motion passed with 40 'yes' votes, 2 'no' votes, and one person who abstained from voting. This was the final step of a five month process that was initiated by our Leadership Team. This process included substantial research and approval by our team, permission from our District Superintendent, and approval by the Gateway District Board of Church Location and Building.

Members from the Leadership Team met with McBride and Sons on Wednesday to complete the final paperwork to begin construction of the new parsonage in the Arbors of Rockwood. The estimated completion date is December 15th. The existing parsonage will be placed on the real estate market this fall. If you have any questions about this, please contact our Leadership Team chairperson, Mike Butler, at mbutler@butlerelect.com.

We are very excited to introduce XP3, our new Sunday School for grades 6-12.  Starting on Sept. 10th, we will be inviting youth to join us for a program geared strictly to them.  Middle School and High School are unique, and they both matter.  XP3 will strive to help move students past information and into experience.  The goal is to make it as easy as possible for students to take what they are learning and apply it to their faith and life.  We hope your child will join us in the 6th grade classroom on the second and fourth Sunday of each month!

I Pray!

Have you ever been stuck? In your car? In your career? In your spiritual life? Sometimes we find ourselves in a place where we just need to get "unstuck".

e are continuing with our focus on prayer this Sunday with a message titled "When I am Stuck". We will be exploring the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:16-18 and also considering the plight of a few men held in captivity in Daniel 1. What did Daniel do when he was stuck? What did Jesus do and instruct us to do when we are "stuck"?

We offer two distinct worship services on Sunday morning.

This has been another amazing week at Eureka UMC! We are hosting two teams for flood recovery efforts. Team one is with the Brethren Disaster Ministries with volunteers from Ohio and Pennsylvania. Team two is from First UMC in New Castle, Texas. Both teams have been working hard in our community to assist families affected by the floods. Both teams are also very grateful for the use of our facilities; all made possible because of your extravagant generosity to provide an amazing and functional space for these teams.

We have an increasing number of families who join us through the live stream of our 9:45 am worship service when a family vacation, work, or other obligations prevent them from joining us in person on Sunday morning. We were made aware of some video and audio quality issues last Sunday and have since updated our live stream equipment to provide an amazing experience for our online guests.

EUMC News! (Aug 4, 2017)

Prayer. What is it? Does God listen to prayers? Are they answered? Does God care?

Several years ago, Garth Brooks offered these words,
"Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers"

Maybe you have asked these same questions. We invite you to join us this Sunday, August 6th, as we explore these and other questions regarding prayer. We will consider a very compelling prayer offered by David (the same David you may remember from David and Goliath) and how God responded in 2 Samuel 5:17-25.

See you on Sunday!

EAGLE LAKE AND PRE SCHOOL MINI CAMP 2017!

It has been an amazing week at Eureka UMC! We welcomed 240, yes, TWO HUNDRED FORTY campers plus 45 Camp Counselors, plus dozens of volunteers to our Eagle Lake and Pre School Mini Camp! This amazing outreach into our community would not have been possible without our amazing volunteers and your prayerful support of this incredible event...THANK YOU! We should have dates for next year's camp available later this fall.

We will teach you the skills and provide tools so no experience is necessary. We accomodate all schedules and work around your schedule. Please contact Larry Baner (baner4@yahoo.com or 314-753-9729) to join the team or for more information.

Eureka United Methodist Church has been invited by the Congregational Excellence team of the Missouri Conference to participate in the Healthier Church Initiative (HCI). The staff and leadership team for Eureka UMC has been laying the groundwork for the HCI since March; now we are ready to invite everyone else to be part of this wonderful experience. The HCI includes numerous consultants and coaches who will conduct interviews, analyze data, and work alongside us to help us to discern our unique vision for Eureka UMC. The consultants and coaches will also help determine new things we may need to begin doing and even determine some things that we may stop doing; all of this to ensure that we are living out the Mission given to us by Jesus, "to make new disciples of Jesus Christ".

Over the next several weeks, you will learn more about the HCI and how you can be an integral part of this wonderful season in our church and our community. I would like to encourage everyone to join one of the dozens of prayer teams that are forming in advance of the HCI. Prayer is the cornerstone of everything we plan to accomplish through the HCI. Several families will be asked to participate in the Readiness 360 survey. We will be interviewing community and civic leaders to determine how Christ's church can best help contribute to the needs of our community.

We are blessed to have Kay Kotan, a sought after author and speaker, as our lead consultant. The new Director of Congregational Excellence, Roger Ross, will also be part of our HCI. Roger has filled the position previously held by our current Bishop, Bob Farr. Kay, Roger, and the rest of the HCI consultant team will be here September 29-October 1 for the consultation weekend.

This is going to be an exciting time! Through the HCI, we will discern a new vision and be prepared to better serve and minister to the families living in our community and the nearly 1200 new families moving here over the next few years.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Tim

EUMC News!

Good morning!

FAQ Sermon Series continues on Sunday, July 23rd!

Several months ago we provided an online survey for members and friends of Eureka UMC to share questions you have about Jesus, God, the Bible, faith and how this all relates to your life. There were some great questions asked as part of this survey! We addressed a few questions from the survey last week and will explore a few more questions this week. Among the questions we will explore are:

"Why is there evil in the world?"

"What is spiritual warfare?"

"Who is Satan and where did Satan come from?"

Maybe you've considered similar questions yourself. Perhaps you've dismissed these claims as fanciful metaphors. You are invited to join us as we explore these real questions from real people in a message titled "Living the Supernatural Faith". We will again be referring to various texts from 1 & 2 Peter.

You will want to be there on Sunday as we explore these real questions from real people!

We offer two distinct worship services on Sunday morning. Our 9:45 am contemporary worship service includes modern Christian music led by 'midnight prayer', our amazing praise band. Our JAM (Jesus and Me) Children's Ministry also meets at9:45 am for ages 3 years old through the fifth grade.

9:45 am worship songs

Walk by Faith

Everything Glorious

Blessed be Your Name

Revelation

Like a Child

Our 8:30 am traditional worship service includes timeless Christian hymns; the same message is offered at both worship services.

8:30 am hymns

370 Victory in Jesus

347 Spirit Song

451 Be Thou My Vision

77 How Great Thou Art

Childcare is available during both worship services in our newly renovated and professionally staffed nursery for children ages birth through 2 years old. We invite middle school and high school age youth to join their families during the worship services on Sunday mornings.

We invite our first time guests to visit www.eurekaumc.org and click the "Are you a first time guest?" link near the top of the page.

See you on Sunday!

It has been an amazing week at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary! The seminary is on the shore of Lake Michigan, located near the center of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, Although I am only here for two weeks, preparation for this onsite portion of my studies began in October with thousands of pages of reading, hundreds of pages of papers to write, and numerous online discussion forums with the professors and other students. It is great to be able to finally gather, face to face, with my professors and fellow students. These class times, as always, are both challenging and invigorating. One of the things I appreciate about this structure of "learning as you lead" is the opportunity to employ what I have learned at seminary into our local ministry setting and community right away.

I am looking forward to being back in town for our worship services this Sunday. Have a great rest of the week and I'll see you on Sunday!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Tim
