Connecting Hearts, Thriving Together, Overflowing into the World
To make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
It doesn't get much more exciting than this--the Blues are in the Stanley Cup Playoffs! And unless you've been walking this earth for the past half century, this is something that you have not yet seen in your lifetime. And no one has ever seen the Blues
WIN a Stanley Cup playoff game until Wednesday evening. The team's journey this season has been nothing short of remarkable.
Hockey, along with all other sports, has memorable moments and hard fought contests that come down to a missed field goal, a walk off homerun in extra innings, or a penalty shot in overtime. Even in other competitions, such as track and field events or swimming, athletes have lost a race by hundredths of a second.
The Apostle Paul reminds us in his letter to the Corinthians, "Do you not know that in a race all runners run, but only one gets the prize?" (1 Corinthians 9:24) Now this is true in sports. Only one person (or team) will win. Sometime in early June, either the Blues or the Bruins will obtain the prize--the coveted Stanley Cup. One team will have won, and let's be honest, the other team, no matter how good they are, will have lost.
Fortunately, this is not the case as a follower of Jesus Christ. Following Jesus isn't a race to be won. The race has already been won. Jesus died for us, and because He lives, we also live. There is one prize. It is Jesus.
John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, said this, "You have one business on earth – to save souls."
So maybe we are in a race after all? Not to compete for a prize (already won--it is Jesus), but to see how many others we can "win" for Christ.
See you on Sunday!

the Class of 2019!

"Uncomfortable" Sermon Series concludes this Sunday, June 2nd.
American culture is a culture of comfort. It is being sold to us everywhere we look. We are encouraged to do what we want, when we want, with whomever we want. If something is uncomfortable, we want to avoid it at all costs. The Christian faith, though, is just that: uncomfortable. This six-week series will help us to embrace, understand, and to see the beauty and hope in the challenging realities of being part of God's people.
This Sunday we will consider the "Uncomfortable Mission". Pastor Tim will be preaching from Acts 1:8.
**Communion will be served during both services on Sunday
Worship Service times are at 8:30 am and 9:45 am
JAM Children's Ministry gathers at 9:45 am (children ages 3 through the 5th grade)
Our new Family Room Worship Site gathers at 9:45 am
Childcare is available during both worship services for children birth through 2 years old.
How Will You Measure Your Life?
In the final class of each semester, Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christenson asks his
students how they will apply the theories of business and organizations to their own lives to
they are happy and successful in their careers
their relationships are an enduring source of happiness
they live lives of integrity
Those discussions led to his best-selling book, “How Will You Measure Your Life?” This sermon series explores this same question. Drawing from biblical wisdom, it looks at how what we choose and value has far greater impact on our lives than what we achieve and acquire.
June 9, "By Who and How You Love", Jenny Babb preaching
June 16, "By How and What You Give"
June 23, "By Who and How You Serve"
Jenny Babb will be preaching through this two week series that will focus on Jesus' teaching from the Sermon on the Mount. Half of learning something new is unlearning something old. We have to avoid wrong turns and follow the path laid out in scripture so that we can know the truth in God’s Word.
