Why do you pray? Why do you not pray? We have all probably experienced seasons in our life where we may be tempted to 'give up' on prayer for a variety of reasons; we are too busy, life is going just fine, maybe because we believe that prayer makes no difference in our lives, or we become frustrated because our prayers don't seem to yield any outcome in our lives. What if prayer is not necessarily about seeking control about a situation in our lives but rather surrendering our control to God?
e are continuing with our focus on prayer this Sunday with a message titled "When I Pray". We will consider two teachings from Jesus from Matthew 8:1-4 and Luke 18:1-8 and see how prevailing in prayer can help us prevail in life.
We offer two distinct worship services on Sunday morning.
Our 8:30 am traditional worship service includes timeless Christian hymns led by our Chancel Choir; the same message is offered at both worship services
8:30 am hymns:
Lord, Speak to Me
Find us Faithful
Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling
Now Thank We All Our God
Our 9:45 am contemporary worship service includes modern Christian music led by 'midnight prayer', our amazing praise band. Our JAM (Jesus and Me) Children's Ministry also meets at 9:45 am for ages 3 years old through the fifth grade.
9:45 am Worship songs:
Your Grace is Enough
Good, Good Father
All Because of Jesus
Childcare is available during both worship services in our newly renovated and professionally staffed nursery for children ages birth through 2 years old. We invite middle school and high school age youth to join their families during the worship services on Sunday mornings.
We invite our first time guests to visit www.eurekaumc.org and click the "Are you a first time guest?" link near the top of the page.
See you on Sunday!
40 Days of Prayer "Prayer Triplet" Groups are now forming!
We are excited to announce the formation of over 40 prayer groups in preparation for our church wide "40 Days of Prayer" beginning on August 20th. You are encouraged to form a group of three, a "prayer triplet", and to join us in an intentional season of prayer as we seek to discern the unique, God given vision for Eureka UMC. If you do not have a "prayer triplet", we can help connect you to one.
Please visit www.eurekaumc.org and open the "Join the 40 Days of Prayer" link on the front page of the website. Questions? Please contact our Prayer Team Director, Briana Doerr, at firstname.lastname@example.org
We held our Church Conference on Sunday, August 20th at 11:00 am. Our District Superintendent, Rev. Londia Grainger Wright, presided over the Conference. The motion before the church was to proceed with the sale of the existing parsonage and to build a new parsonage. After a few questions, Rev. Londia called for the vote. The motion passed with 40 'yes' votes, 2 'no' votes, and one person who abstained from voting. This was the final step of a five month process that was initiated by our Leadership Team. This process included substantial research and approval by our team, permission from our District Superintendent, and approval by the Gateway District Board of Church Location and Building.
Members from the Leadership Team met with McBride and Sons on Wednesday to complete the final paperwork to begin construction of the new parsonage in the Arbors of Rockwood. The estimated completion date is December 15th. The existing parsonage will be placed on the real estate market this fall. If you have any questions about this, please contact our Leadership Team chairperson, Mike Butler, at email@example.com.
New app will be launching next week!
2015 marked the first time in history when more people accessed the internet through their smart phone rather than a desk top or lap top computer. We have had a great team, under the leadership of Lisa Koltun, developing a new app which will also be connected to an new website. Both the app and the new website are due to launch by the end of next week. These new platforms will provide easier access to all of the wonderful ways to connect, grow, and serve through the ministries at Eureka UMC. Find our app here: http://get.theapp.co/d6f5/
We launched our new website this week! It can be found at the same address, www.eurekaumc.org. The new site is easier to navigate and is much more compatible with our new church app. A big THANK YOU to Lisa Koltun for her amazing work to completely build and launch this new site in just over a week's time!

Upcoming opportunities to Connect, Grow, or Serve through EUMC
EUMC is teaming up with the Eureka Disaster Relief Committee to carry out an adult local mission service project every second Saturday of each month. Our next service day is Saturday, September 9th. Examples of projects include drywall replacement, clean up, flooring, light carpentry etc. The current mission field is rebuilding mobile homes that have been relocated to higher ground at the Laurel Acres trailer park so families can move back in. We will teach you the skills and provide tools so no experience is necessary. We accommodate all schedules and work around your schedule. Please contact Larry Baner (firstname.lastname@example.org or 314-753-9729) to join the team or for more information.
WOW Fall Coat Drive
Do you have jackets or coats you no longer use? Have your kids out-grown theirs? Please save them; WoW (Women of Worship) is doing a coat drive this fall. Look for more information soon. Thank you! Renee Smola

Grace and peace,
We are very excited to introduce XP3, our new Sunday School for grades 6-12. Starting on Sept. 10th, we will be inviting youth to join us for a program geared strictly to them. Middle School and High School are unique, and they both matter. XP3 will strive to help move students past information and into experience. The goal is to make it as easy as possible for students to take what they are learning and apply it to their faith and life. We hope your child will join us in the 6th grade classroom on the second and fourth Sunday of each month!
Confirmation classes will begin in October. If you have a child(ren) in grade 6th or up, and you would like information on confirmation, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. You may register for confirmation classes here:
