Today we met Jim (not his real name or photo). Jim lost his home last week and has been living on the streets in Eureka. He heard that Eureka UMC may be able to help him. He walked to the church building this morning looking for hope. He tried opening the doors on the south side of the church to see if he could receive some food from the Food Pantry and if there may be any other assistance available. The doors were locked.
Discouraged, he began to walk away from the church until he saw the EUMC church van pull into the parking lot. He quickly changed direction and headed towards the van. He introduced himself. He asked if we could help him. He shared his story. He needed food. But more than anything else, he wanted to know that someone would listen to his painful story and that someone cared about him. We listened. We assured him that God loves him and that we love him, too.
We provided a bag of food from the Food Pantry, food that required no preparation; tuna, canned chicken, peanut butter, jelly, and Pop Tarts. He was thrilled at all of this, especially the Pop Tarts. He indicated that this food would sustain him for the next few days until he begins a his new job on Friday.
We also gave him $20 to purchase bread and other needed items that are not available through the Food Pantry. He teared up and said, "I just know that God led me here and I just knew that this church could help me."
Jim found hope, not in a building, but through a group of people known as the 'church'. And our hope is firmly rooted in Jesus Christ.
Friends, this is the church. A place where hope is found, grace is dispensed, love is unleashed, the broken are made whole, and Jesus is exalted.
Coming to church is important, and a vital part of growing in our faith as disciples of Jesus Christ, and being the church is equally important.
How is God calling you to be the 'church' this week? Whose redemptive story will you co-author with God this week?
“Believe me: I am in my Father and my Father is in me. If you can’t believe that, believe what you see—these works. The person who trusts me will not only do what I’m doing but even greater things, because I, on my way to the Father, am giving you the same work to do that I’ve been doing. You can count on it.” Jesus in John 14:11-12 MSG
Did you know that you can give to the life changing ministries of Eureka UMC through your smartphone? We recently launched our new SubSplash giving platform through our mobile app. It takes less than two minutes to set up an account through the mobile app and from there giving is simple! You can set up a recurring gift (i.e. weekly or monthly) and also make 'one time' gifts with a simple click on your smart device. Your continued, generous financial support of the ministries at Eureka UMC is greatly appreciated, is making a difference, and will allow us to fuel our Mission of 'making new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.'
Join us on Sunday, April 22, as we conclude our current sermon series, "MORE". This series explores the simple teachings of John Wesley regarding money, "earn more, save more, and give more". This Sunday we will wrestle with the trap of envy as we live into the teaching of John Wesley to 'earn more'. We will be looking at a fascinating account about King David and how his desire to have MORE (due to envy) cost him and his family dearly. Our text this week will be 2 Samuel 12:1-8 NLT.

Will you join us in prayer?
One of the most important ways you can support EUMC right now is to circle the work of the Vision Team in prayer. Our first challenge is determining how we will grow spiritual disciples intent on continuing to strengthen their relationship with Christ.
- We desire to honor the past while stepping into the future and not leaving a single soul behind.
- We desire to SEND disciples into the community, not simply collect disciples.
- We are clear on our mission of making disciples for the transformation of the world, but we need God's direction on HOW to do this well.
Haven't you desired the knowledge it takes to be a better disciple? This is what the vision team will be grappling with over the next few months and we're asking you to saturate our work in some intentional corporate prayer.
The purpose of prayer is to get into God's presence so HE can outline His VISION for us. How? By setting aside a few minutes each day for 40 days April 2-May 12. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 314 749 3874 if you'd like to receive weekly prayer/praise requests re: vision team over the next 40 days.

NEW LIFE GROUP FOR 20S & 30S!
Stephanie Krechel will be leading a new Life Group for young adults in their 20's and 30's. This group will begin meeting in April; dates and times to be determined after the group is formed. Here's some information about what to expect:
We live in a culture that caters to our choices. We like our options, and we enjoy the opportunity to choose our preferences. Popular psychology and human reasoning tell us to make choices based on what feels good. They encourage us, “just follow your heart.” God has given us a much better guide, however, in His Word. Unlike our fickle and untrustworthy opinions, God’s Word never changes. Its dependability has been proven through the centuries.
In The Choice Is Yours, Terrie Chappell will lead us through twelve choices that can strengthen or weaken our walk with God. Discover these important, daily decisions that will bring joy and purpose to your life!
Would you like more information? Please inquire through our mobile app, our website, or through this link: www.tinyurl.com/20s30sEUMC
The group will meet every other week in room 207 beginning April 15th for 6 weeks. You can RSVP Here!
