EUMC News! (May 24th, 2018)

sky.jpg

Let's be honest, you've probably heard or read something that's in the Bible and thought to yourself, "that's weird." You may even begin to wonder why this seemingly weird story is even part of God's Word. This begs the question, "why is this weird stuff in the Bible anyway? What does it mean? How can this possibly speak to my life in 2018?"

We invite you and your family to join us on Sunday, May 27th as we explore one more weird story in the Bible from Joshua 10. Joshua offers a bold prayer to God, that the sun would stand still. "The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.  There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!" Joshua 10:13-14. What can we learn from this weird story? Let's explore this strange passage together on Sunday!

We gather for two unique expressions of worship on Sunday mornings; we invite you and your family to join us at either one of these worship services

 8:30 am Traditional Service:

Hymns:

America, #697
To God be the Glory, #98
God be With You, #697

9:45 am Contemporary Service (and Live Stream on Facebook Live)

Worship Songs:

Forever
Your Love Never Fails
Oceans (Where Feet may Fail)
How Can it Be?
Happy Day

Our JAM (Jesus and Me) Children's Ministry meets at 9:45 am for children ages 3 years old through the fifth grade.

Childcare is available for children birth through 2 years old in our nursery during both worship service times on Sunday mornings.

Making Change:Life in Transition Sermon Series

“The Only Thing That Is Constant Is Change”  Heraclitus

Life is full of changes. Some we expect, others that may come unexpectedly. Some of our families are experiencing changes in their lives with the birth of a new child, a young child who will begin school in the Fall, or an older child who will be leaving for college at the end of summer. Some families may transitioning to being 'empty-nesters', and still other families are facing the realities of seeing their spouse or parent(s) struggle with Alzheimer's or dementia. This series will examine the realities of making these changes and life transitions through the lens of God's Word and wisdom.

Eureka Elementary reached out to us last week and asked if we could help six families meet some of their needs as the school year ends and they head into the summer months.  Norma Gesellschap, a member of Eureka UMC, spent the better part of this past Monday sorting, organizing, shopping, and delivering these items to Eureka Elementary School for distribution. Katie, the school counselor, was greatly appreciative of your generosity towards these amazing students and their families!

We are excited to announce that Norma will be the leader and point of contact for our new partnership with Eureka Elementary School!

She has learned of some additional ways that we will be able to partner with the students and families at the school once school resumes in August.

Would you like to learn more about being part of this wonderful ministry? Please contact Norma at ngesellschap@sbcglobal.net  for more information.

Did you know that you can give to the life changing ministries of Eureka UMC through your smartphone? We recently launched our new SubSplash giving platform through our mobile app. It takes less than two minutes to set up an account through the mobile app and from there giving is simple! You can set up a recurring gift (i.e. weekly or monthly) and also make 'one time' gifts with a simple click on your smart device. Your continued, generous financial support of the ministries at Eureka UMC is greatly appreciated, is making a difference, and will allow us to fuel our Mission of 'making new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.'
