This weekend is our consultation weekend for the Healthier Church Initiative! 

Prayer Teams
Our 22 prayer teams concluded their 40 Days of Prayer,  praying for the families in our community, our schools, and our church. These teams were also discerning God's unique vision for Eureka UMC in 2017 and into 2018. A big thank you to Brianna Doerr, our prayer team director for organizing this amazing group of teams!

Surveys
Andy Heinz, our HCI Coordinator, has completed many important tasks leading up the the HCI weekend. This includes the recent completion of the Readiness 360 Survey which was completed by 26 members of Eureka UMC. This included people from both worship services, long time members and brand new members, and people in their early 20's to people in their 80's--it was quite a cross section of our congregation.

Church-wide training workshop
There will be a church wide meeting and training session led by our HCI consultation and coaching team on Saturday, October 7th from10 am until 3 pm (lunch provided). This training session is open to all members of the church. If you would like to attend this training session, please contact Andy Heinze at hci.coordinator@eurekaumc.org before 9 am on Friday, October 6th (this information is needed to ensure that enough food is available for lunch).

HCI Consultation Team all church meeting
The HCI consultation team will be conducting a one hour meeting on Sunday, October 8th from 11 am until noon to reveal the findings from your surveys, mystery worshipper insights, staff interviews, demographic data, and their research. This will include a list of five celebrations (things we are doing well) and five prescriptions (recommended changes) for us to prayerfully consider.

"Town Hall" meetings
There will be three town hall style meetings scheduled in October for members and friends of EUMC to discuss the findings of the consultation team. This will be a Q & A format led by members of our Leadership Team. Childcare will be available during these meetings. The meetings will be held in the sanctuary of the church. The dates and times of the town hall meetings are:

Sunday, October 22nd at 11:00 am
Tuesday, October 24th at 7:00 pm
Monday, October 30th at 7:00 pm

These meetings will be followed by a church conference in November (TBA) where members of Eureka UMC will decide to accept or to reject the prescriptions offered by the HCI team.

We are excited to welcome Rev. Dr. Jim Ozier to Eureka UMC as the lead consultant for our HCI weekend. Jim will also be our guest preacher on Sunday, October 8th at both worship services; he will be sharing a compelling message based on Luke 5:1-11 titled "The Net Worth of a Church".

Here is Jim's bio:

Jim Ozier retired in July 2017 from the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church after 51 years of active service in Illinois and Texas, so that he could invest more time to coaching, consulting, and presenting workshops around the country.

He most recently served for eight years as the director of the Center for New Church Development and Congregational Transformation.  Prior to that assignment he was senior pastor of Trietsch Memorial UMC in Flower Mound for nearly 18 years.  In his tenure the church grew from 800 to over 4000, and birthed three new successful congregations.

In addition Jim is a workshop leader, coach, and consultant working with hundreds of pastors and churches in over 20 annual conferences throughout the countryHe has been a presenter at Church of the Resurrection Leadership Institute, and keynoted the Indiana Annual Conference, and the East Ohio Annual Conference.

Jim began his ministry working for noted missionary E. Stanley Jones, and he served his first church while just a high-school student in Illinois. He received his Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Jim Ozier is an established motivational speaker and presenter for religious groups, civic organizations, and corporations. Based on techniques and ideas learned from his experiences with Southwest Airlines, he has conducted numerous seminars on culture and hospitality for hundreds of pastors, churches, districts, and annual conferences.

He is co-author of the books “Clip In: Risking Hospitality in Your Church” and “The Changeover Zone: Successful Pastoral Transitions,” both published by Abingdon Press.  Jim specializes in coaching larger church pastors, and  “2nd Pastors Following Founding Pastors” as well as church transitions involving long-tenured pastors, and large churches. 

Jim’s wife, Suzanne, is a retired special education teacher. Together they have four grown children. Jim is an outdoorsman who enjoys fishing, hunting, and wildlife management.

We offer two distinct worship services on Sunday morning.
Our 9:45 am contemporary worship service includes modern Christian music led by 'midnight prayer', our amazing praise band. Our JAM (Jesus and Me) Children's Ministry also meets at 9:45 am for ages 3 years old through the fifth grade.

Upcoming Sermon Series

"Found Faithful" will explore how individuals and communities are called to be faithful with little, with much, and with all that our generous God gives us. This series will include an emphasis on stewardship and will end on Sunday, November 19th with "Celebration Sunday", an opportunity for each of us to join together to commit a portion of the financial resources entrusted to us by God back into accomplishing his Mission in our community in 2018.

Sometimes life can remove the joy that many of our friends experience during this season. It could be a painful memory, the loss of of loved one, or any number of reasons why Christmas can leave us feeling blue. This is a service of remembrance, hope, and healing for individuals and families who are looking for joy in the midst of pain or loss during this Christmas season.

Apportioned Giving update

One of the wonderful things about being part of the United Methodist Church is our connection with every other United Methodist Church in the state, nation, and even around the world. It's through this connection that we can do so much more than we could ever do alone. This connection allows instant response around the world during natural disasters, it helps start new churches around the world, it provides food and clean water for families in developing nations, and so much more. Each United Methodist Church supports these worldwide ministries through apportioned giving. 

For many years, Eureka UMC has not been very faithful in contributing towards our fair share of apportioned giving to the life changing and life giving worldwide ministries of the United Methodist Church. Our Leadership Team and pastor, along with our District Superintendent, developed a plan to bring Eureka UMC into full participation with our apportioned giving over a three year period beginning in 2017. Here is that plan:

2017: $18,000.00 (or about33% of our apportioned giving)
2018: $36,000.00 (or about 66% of our apportioned giving)
2019: 100% of our apportioned giving.

We are celebrating the full payment of our 2017 goal of $18,000.00 towards our apportioned giving! This is wonderful and your generosity is making a difference in the lives of families around the globe! Thank you for your continued, generous support of the wonderful ministries happening through Eureka UMC!

We will being going to Sky Zone, preparing and eating dinner at the church, and packing meals for Feed My Starving Children. Cost is $55, which includes dinner, SkyZone and our donation to FMSC. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy homemade soups and all the money raised will go towards adopting crisis nursery families for Christmas. We are organizing a mission team to return to Guatemala, March 9-March 19, 2018. This trip is open to everyone 16 years and older. There are only 18 spots available for this mission trip and we expect this trip to be full.
