EUMC News! (Nov 7th, 2018)

We hope you'll join us on Sunday for one of our two worship services! Not only are these services going to be amazing through wonderful music and a great sermon from Jenny Babb...we are also making a very special announcement. This will occur during both worship services. You will want to be present on Sunday!

fire drill.jpg

Yesterday, I was serving at Eureka Elementary School. It was a busy afternoon with numerous students arriving to the library to participate in the MakerSpace challenge. It's amazing to see how creative these students can be! Around 2:30 pm, the librarian, Kristen, looked over towards the MakerSpace area and said, "Tim, you should probably put your jacket on." I was initially a little perplexed because it was not cold in the library. Just then, Kristen draped her jacket over her shoulders. I quickly donned my jacket!

I asked, "why are we putting on our jackets?"

She responded, "there is going to be a fire drill in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..."

On cue the fire alarms sounded and the strobe lights began to flash!

I remembered from the volunteer training that during a drill (or actual event) that I was to make my way to the large map of the USA painted on the playground. I stood there, very glad to be wearing a jacket, as students and faculty piled out of the building. Each class had a designated gathering area. I noticed all of the teachers gathering their class together and checking that each of their students were accounted for. The office staff arrived with laptop computers in hand and began to account for all of the volunteers. A few minutes later, the announcement was made that everyone was accounted for, that the fire drill was over, and that we could all return to the building.

During this drill, as the faculty and staff searched for and ensured that each student was present, I was reminded of someone else who searches for people: Jesus. “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish." Matthew 18:12-14

Jesus cares. He cares enough to leave the ninety-nine to find the one. The one is important to him! You are important to him! Here's something to consider about his passage; as followers of Jesus we are called to do as Jesus does. We are called to leave the ninety-nine and GO to find the one.

This is not a drill.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Tim

power of holy spirit.jpg

The Holy Spirit is, for most of us, the most mysterious and least understood person of the Trinity. We invite you to join us on Sunday mornings in November as we embark on a journey to discover more about the Holy Spirit revealed to us through God's Word. This is going to be an amazing journey!

Jenny Babb, our Director of Family Ministries, will be preaching this Sunday, November 11th, at both worship services. Jenny will be sharing how we are STRONGER through the work and ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

We gather for two distinct expressions of worship on Sunday mornings at our 8:30 am and 9:45 am worship services

Our JAM (Jesus and Me) Children's Ministry meets at 9:45 am for children ages 3 years old through the fifth grade. Childcare is available for children birth through 2 years old in our nursery during both worship service times on Sunday mornings

UPCOMING SERMONS

During November, we will explore the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

November 11, "Stronger" Jenny Babb preaching

November 18, "Greater" Pastor Tim preaching

November 25, "Under the Influence" Pastor Suzanne preaching

connect class.jpg

Each quarter, we invite guests who have been attending our Sunday morning worship services for a few weeks, a few months, or even longer to join our Connect Class. This class will be comprised of families and individuals who desire to grow deeper in their faith through a deeper connection with Jesus and the amazing people at Eureka UMC. This class will meet four times, for an hour each time, over the course of the next three months. During the Connect Class, you'll have the opportunity to ask questions, to learn more about what it means to follow Jesus, and to gain an understanding of what it means to be a Methodist. Our first Winter Connect Class will meet on Sunday, November 11th at 11:00 am in the Confirmation Room. During this first class, the group will determine the best dates to schedule the remaining three gatherings. Are you interested in being part of our next connect class? If so, please register at: https://tinyurl.com/winterconnect18
