CHRISTMAS EVE WORSHIP TIMES
MONDAY, DECEMBER 24TH
3pm 5pm 8pm
We are excited to partner with the ongoing recovery efforts in Puerto Rico through our Christmas Offering. During any of our three Christmas Eve services, you can make an additional gift towards this ongoing work. Your financial gift will provide building materials towards the rebuilding of the Methodist Church on the small island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. This church is a huge asset to this small island community; providing, among other things, one of the few medical centers available to the island residents. To learn more, please open the link below.
On December 17th, our Proclamation Brass performed for the residents at Marymount Manor in Eureka. The brass did an amazing job sharing a wide variety of songs that evening! Everything from traditional Christmas songs to "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond. It was a packed house and many of the residents were singing and clapping to the music.
In the midst of all of this great music, something beautiful happened. One of the band members stood up and announced the next song and said, "if you feel like, please dance."
The music started and people began to clap their hands. An elderly couple sitting in the middle of the room, however, did not clap. The wife leaned over to her husband, who was confined to a wheel chair, and whispered something into his ear. Out of his feeble body, he slowly nodded his head in agreement with whatever his wife had asked him. She stood up and put her hands on his shoulders and began to dance. She leaned in, and held him tight, and they danced. They danced like there was no one else in the room. Her feet moved to the music and the wheels on his chair moved with her. They danced. It was beautiful. And there was not a dry eye in the room.
During this dance, it seemed like time stood still. Nothing else mattered. At this moment, this was the most important thing happening in the world. And for those of us that were there, we didn't miss it.
My prayer is that Christmas will be like this for you and your family. Even if it's for a brief moment, that time will stand still. That for a moment nothing else will matter. And that you won't miss it.
God With Us.
(Members of our Praise Team paused for a photo op during rehearsal)
When you arrive on Sunday morning, or at any other time during the week, we want to encourage you to take a selfie, a family photo, or a group photo each week at the stable in our Commons Area. This Sunday, we are calling it the "Stable of Peace". Capture a photo, post it on social media, 'check in' to Eureka UMC, and add a description if you'd like, and finally use this week's hashtag; #JesusIsPeace. Let's flood our community with amazing images of our families and spread the message of PEACE! It was great to see DOZENS of your photos flooding social media this past week!
We will continue this throughout the month of December, including during all three of our Christmas Eve Services. We thank you in advance of being part of this fun way to share your faith!

Our JAM (Jesus and Me) Children's Ministry meets at 9:45 am for children ages 3 years old through the fifth grade. Childcare is available for children birth through 2 years old in our nursery during both worship service times on Sunday mornings
December 30 "The Wonder Years"
Have you ever wondered what Jesus' life was like during his 'middle school' years? We will explore a unique passage from Luke 2 that gives us the only glimpse that we have of Jesus during his youth.
We will begin 2019 with a compelling sermon series, "Decisions: Burdens or Opportunities". We all face decisions in our lives:
"Where should I go to school?"
"Who should I marry?"
"Should I start a family?"
"What is my career path?"
"How do I care for my aging parents?"
"How do I handle end of life decisions?"
We will explore how to approach these, and other decisions, through the lens of God's Word.
January 6: "Making Decisions for Me" Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
January 13: "Making Decisions with Others" Proverbs 16:1-3 MSG
January 20: "Making Decisions With My Church" Matthew 28:16-20 NIV
We invite you to participate in a short survey as we prepare for our January sermon series, "Decisions: Burdens or Opportunities".
Your honest (and anonymous) input will be helpful as we prepare these upcoming sermons.
